State and territory workforce snapshots

Our state and territory data snapshots summarise the key findings from our Scoping child mental health workforce competency project and 2023 National Workforce Survey.

These snapshots include an overview of the need for child mental health support, including estimates on prevalence of child mental health conditions and vulnerabilities for future mental health concerns. They also quantify the workforce available to provide support children and families, and describe the current level of workforce competence in infant and child mental health and wellbeing.

Each snapshot breaks down population need and workforce availability data by SA3 regions*, grouped by Primary Health Network areas (PHNs). National Workforce Survey data is broken down by PHNs for each state or territory. The snapshots also highlight key findings for regions and proposed workforce development strategies.

The snapshots offer regional context and provide a starting point for ongoing conversations about promising approaches to improving care for infants and children in local and broader systems. We invite you to work with us and use this data to action organisational and systems change.
