Emotions and behaviours

Emerging Minds, October 2025

Resource Summary

Meet Emm. In this animation (1 minute, 30 seconds) Emm shares some key things every adult should know about emotions and behaviours and ways to best support them.

  • Did you know that kids feel so many different emotions and that all of them are important?

Good mental health doesn’t mean I’m happy all the time.

It’s feeling all the emotions like happiness, but also sadness, excitement, anger.

Sometimes I feel like there’s a volcano inside me that’s about to explode.

Oh, like there’s butterflies in my belly. Mum says she feels them too.

I might not have the words to tell you my feelings, but you might notice them. In my face and body, how I play all the way I act.

Often my behaviour is how I let you know something’s not right. For me, it’s time to do some detective thinking.

I love it when we work together to figure out what’s going on inside of me.

I might be loud and kicking things because I’m feeling angry, but do you know that’s because someone was mean to me at school?

Or if I stay in my room and don’t play my favourite game, maybe it’s ’cause I’m worried about stuff.

I’m trying to understand when you let me know that whatever I’m feeling is okay and that you get it, I feel safe.

Supporting me to understand and learn healthy ways of dealing with all my different emotions helps me get the most out of life.
