Celebrating Speech Pathology Week

Held from 24–30 August, Speech Pathology Week celebrates the important role that speech pathologists play in helping people thrive at every stage of their lives.

This year’s theme is ‘Impact through communication’, focusing on the ways that speech pathology supports connection, confidence, inclusion, empowerment, opportunity, wellbeing and independence. Today, on day six, the focus is the ways that speech pathologists can support wellbeing, expression and emotional connection, particularly in early intervention with children.

Emerging Minds has a range of resources about ways that speech pathologists can support children’s mental health and wellbeing. Our two-part podcast series Supporting communication needs of children with complex trauma is a great place to start. In these episodes, speech pathologist and teacher Kate Headley talks about working with children with complex trauma living in out-of-home care.
