New online course: Understanding autistic and ADHDer children’s mental health

We are pleased to share our new online course with you today on World Autism Awareness Day (2 April) – a day that promotes acceptance, appreciation and inclusion, and recognises the contributions that autistic people make to our communities and the world. Supporting practitioners to understand and celebrate the contributions, strengths and differences of autistic and ADHDer children is a key component of our new course.

In Australia, autism and ADHD are often seen as the domain of specialists and disability service providers. But with many children and families waiting years for a diagnosis and access to support, it is important that all practitioners are equipped to support the immediate mental health and wellbeing needs of autistic and ADHDer children.

Understanding autistic and ADHDer children’s mental health invites neurotypical practitioners to support neurodivergent children by seeking to understand and accommodate their needs and differences. This free course explores key characteristics of autism and ADHD, offers insights into neurodivergent-affirming practice, and introduces five perspective shifts to support your work with children and families.

By applying a neurodivergent-affirming approach in your work, you can support autistic and ADHDer children and their families to feel accepted, understood and empowered.
