In this episode, Alison Elliot (a family therapist and mother of 12), Yvonne Clark (an Aboriginal psychologist) and Lukas Williams (CEO of Gana Healing) share their perspectives on social and emotional wellbeing (SEWB) and what it means in their work with children, families and communities.

Developed by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, the SEWB framework recognises wellbeing as holistic and relational. It emphasises the importance of connection to family, Community, culture, Country and spirituality as foundations for wellbeing.

Through their diverse experiences and practice wisdom, Alison, Yvonne and Lukas explore how SEWB supports healing, strengthens relationships and fosters resilience for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, families and communities. Their stories highlight the importance of connection to family, Community, culture, Country and spirituality, as well as the role these connections play in healing, resilience and wellbeing.

  • Listen to the episode now to deepen your understanding of SEWB and learn from the wisdom, strengths and experiences of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
  • As you listen, remember that SEWB invites us to see the child not in isolation but in connection – to family, culture, Country, Community, body, mind and spirit. As practitioners, our role is not to fix but to listen, connect and walk alongside families, strengthening the relationships that support wellbeing.
