Launched in 2020, The impact of trauma on the child continues to be one of our most popular online courses. We recently conducted a routine review of this foundational course and made some small changes to reflect current research and sector developments. The update includes the addition of:
- the implications of the recently released Australian Childhood Maltreatment study for practitioners working with children
- an exploration of hopeful practices that have been supported through understandings of neuroplasticity and the ability of children to recover from the effects of trauma where they are supported effectively
- practice descriptions that fit with overarching trauma-informed principles
- an animated case example to support practice that makes power overt for children who might be blaming themselves for their experiences of sexual or physical abuse.
If you have previously completed this course, don’t worry: the changes are not significant enough to require taking the course again, although you are welcome to jump back in to check out the new material.
If you haven’t engaged with this course yet, now is the perfect time! Check out The impact of trauma on the child to find out more about the prevalence of interpersonal trauma and child maltreatment in Australia, its effects on children and families, and trauma-informed approaches for practice.
