Family Sensitive Policy and Practice Toolkit

Australia's National Research Centre on Alcohol and Other Drugs Workforce Development, Australia

Related to Substance use

This toolkit aims to minimise cases of child abuse or neglect by increasing collaboration between child and adult service agencies. It was developed by The National Resource Centre on Alcohol and Other Drugs (NCETA) to improve the safety and welfare of children with parents who misuse alcohol or drugs. The toolkit builds a bridge between the alcohol and other drugs (AOD) treatment and child protection sectors to improve cooperation and collaboration.

The toolkit offers a comprehensive list of ideas and practical suggestions that organisations can adopt to be more child and family sensitive. All components can be downloaded online or hard copies can be obtained free of charge. An alternative to the hard copy is a CD which contains the toolkit plus a copy of Australia’s National Framework for Protecting Australia’s Children, assessment tools, UK and Australian resources and an article by Emeritus Professor Dorothy Scott (the inaugral Director, Australian Centre for Child Protection).
