Resources for work with vulnerable children and families

This section of the Australian Childhood Foundation website includes a variety of resources for professionals to use in practice to support working with vulnerable children, young people, families and communities.

The resources in this section include:

  • ‘Children rights poster – a poster covering the rights of children written in language children will understand’
  • ‘Mindful parenting book – a booklet filled with ideas and strategies to support you to be mindful and reflective in your parenting’
  • ‘Connected parenting book – this booklet explores a number of important topics about being a parent. Above all, it gives you a chance to think about children, parenting and how you can provide children with experiences you want for them as they grow up.’
  • ‘Baby book – an A-Z of ways in which babies need our love, care and support as they grow and develop’
  • ‘Safe and secure – a trauma informed practice guide for understanding and responding to children and young people affected by family violence’
  • ‘Fostering hope foster training (worker resource) – this manual aims to support foster care staff to promote therapeutic principles in their day-to-day work with carers’
  • ‘Home away from home (children’s stories about foster care) – a resource designed for use with children new to or currently living in foster care, the book contains stories about living in foster care and will assist workers in supporting children’
  • ‘Heartfelt – a collection of children’s experiences and stories of abuse, recovery and hope’
  • ‘Making space for learning – trauma informed practice in schools’
