The webinar featured an interdisciplinary panel discussion facilitated by Ms Dana Shen, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cultural Consultant. The panel included Emeritus Professor Judy Atkinson, Researcher and Midwife Professor Catherine Chamberlain, and Social Worker Dr Caroline (Carlie) Atkinson.

At the webinar’s completion, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the effects of intergenerational trauma on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families
  • Outline current research that underlines the importance of cultural competence in all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and non-Indigenous services so that First Nations children and their families receive the kind of support that they need
  • Discuss examples of organisational and individual practice that has built trust and collaboration within communities and led to positive outcomes.

The preferred terminology used by Emerging Minds in our resources is Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, as guided by our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Social and Emotional Wellbeing National Consultancy Group.
