Family centred practice in the alcohol and other drug field

National Centre for Education and Training on Addictions, Australia

Related to Substance use

Family sensitive policy and practice involves raising awareness of the impact on substance abuse upon families, addressing the needs of families and seeing the family – rather than the individual adult or child – as the unit of intervention.

For Kids’ Sake, A Family Sensitive Policy and Practice Toolkit was launched by Minister John Hill on Thursday 15 December 2010. This toolkit aims to minimise cases of child abuse or neglect by increasing collaboration between child and adult service agencies. It is a new initiative developed by NCETA to improve the safety and welfare of children with parents who misuse alcohol or drugs. The toolkit builds a bridge between the alcohol and other drugs (AOD) treatment and child protection sectors to improve cooperation and collaboration.
