Australian Child and Adolescent Trauma, Loss and Grief Network, Australia, 2010

This resource, from the Australian Child & Adolescent Trauma, Loss & Grief Network (ACATLGN) provides strategies and resources for school principals to implement after a disaster, such as widespread bushfires. They are proposed because they have been identified as important frameworks to assist the recovery processes.

The themes outlined:

  • ‘Positive and helpful school environments’
  • ‘Building on strengths to develop resilience’
  • ‘Enhancing connectedness and mutual support’
  • ‘Information, learning, knowledge building’
  • ‘Communication strategies’
  • ‘Actions for recovery and renewal’
  • ‘Looking after memories; acknowledging what has happened and what has followed’
  • ‘Help when help is needed; care and self-care’
  • ‘Emerging challenges’
