Engagement and assessment: Laying the foundation for focused psychological strategies for children

Emerging Minds and Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP), May 2025

Presented by RACGP Specific Interests and Emerging Minds, this webinar supports participants to consider several skills in engagement and assessment with children and their families. It focuses on engaging with parents to explore their values and contextualise the concerns they have about their children’s wellbeing. It also examines why these engagement skills with parents are vital for working with children.

In addition, the webinar covers initial engagement skills for working directly with children, including exploring children’s own values and how a whole child approach can be applied to existing assessment processes to gain the most holistic picture of the child’s presenting concerns.

Led by Dr Tim Jones (Chair, RACGP Specific Interests Child and Young Person’s Health), the expert panel includes:

  • Amanda Warren (Engagement Officer – Primary Health Care, Emerging Minds)
  • Dr Michaela Baulderstone (FRACGP)
  • Penny Sih (psychologist).
