Strengths-based assessment for children experiencing attention and behaviour challenges

Emerging Minds and Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP), May 2026

Children’s mental health is defined by more than emotions and behaviour – core health factors like sleep and nutrition play an integral role.

In this webinar, the panel explores how these foundations influence development and mental health and why addressing them in relation to attention and behaviour concerns matters. It also unpacks practical approaches to assessment and formulation, focusing on the whole child and ways to embed families’ strengths into these processes, offering strategies to move beyond symptom-based assessments and support children and families in a holistic way.

Learning outcomes:

  • Describe how core health factors, such as sleep and nutrition, influence child mental health and developmental challenges.
  • Outline practical strategies for undertaking strengths-based assessment and formulation for attention and behaviour concerns.

This is the second in a four part series with The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP).
