Supporting families to navigate tough times: The impact of financial and housing insecurity, isolation and discrimination

Child Family Community Australia & Emerging Minds, Australia, November 2024

With a steep rise in the cost of living, a growing number of Australian families are having to navigate financial distress, housing insecurity, social isolation and discrimination. These factors have a significant impact on the mental health and wellbeing of children and families. Supporting families as they navigate these realities can be challenging.

Co-produced with Child Family Community Australia (CFCA), this webinar introduces practitioners to a new collection of resources from Emerging Minds that has been created by families who have got through tough times.

The webinar will help practitioners understand the effects of social determinants of health, better support families impacted by the resulting inequalities, and reduce families’ experiences of isolation and stigma. Participants will also gain insight into how to gather and share ideas from families to support practice.

Facilitated by Lydia Trowse (Child and Family Partnership Advisor, Emerging Minds), the presenters include:

  • Kerry Hawkins (President, Western Association for Mental Health)
  • Zan Maeder (counsellor and narrative therapist)
  • Emi Artemis (child and family partner).
